Dr. Fate is a powerful sorcerer in the DC Universe, typically embodying a cosmic force for order.
The original Dr. Fate, and often the most well-known, is Kent Nelson. He debuted in More Fun Comics #55 (May 1940). Kent was taught sorcery at a young age by the ancient Nabu, a Lord of Order, after discovering Nabu's tomb.
Kent's powers derive from wearing the Helmet of Nabu, Amulet of Anubis, and Cloak of Destiny. While wearing the helmet, Kent is possessed to varying degrees by Nabu, granting him incredible magical abilities but often at the cost of his own personality.
Other characters have worn the Helmet and become Dr. Fate over the years, each with their own connection to Nabu and varying degrees of control over the immense power.
